CARDIOCON 2, 2019

CARDIOCON 2 is the second edition of now-famous Cardiology Conference and Workshop organized by Badr Al Samaa Group of Hospitals. Around 300 delegates participated in the event. Dr Mazin Jawad Al Khabouri, DG-PHE was the chief guest of the event. Dr Salim Abdullah Salim Al Harmy was the guest of honour. The events comprised of presentations, scientific sessions and workshops with hands-on experience and live coronary intervention interactive case presentation transmitted from Badr Al Samaa Hospital, Ruwi to the conference venue.

IMA, Nedumbassery had joined hands with Badr Al Samaa in organizing the CARDIOCON 2019 to multiply its reach and effectiveness. Dr Benny Panakkal, Senior Consultant Interventional Cardiologist and Group Medical Director, Badr Al Samaa Group is the chairman while as Dr Paul Abraham, Specialist ENT, Badr Al Samaa Group and President, IMA, Nedumbassery is the Co-Chairman of the conference.

Dr Jose Chacko Periappuram, the eminent Cardiovascular Surgeon who had performed the first cardiac transplant in Kerala, India presented a scientific session on Cardiac Transplant. He showcased various transplant cases done by him. This session was chaired by Dr. Adil Abdul Majid Al Lawati, HOD Cardiac Surgery Division, NHC, Royal Hospital. Prof. Dr Rajesh T, from AIMS, India presented on Transradial Coronary Interventions. Radial Route interventions are safer and faster as compared to conventional femoral route. This session was chaired by Dr Said Al Hinai, Senior Consultant Cardiologist, Diwan Medical Services. Professor Dr K.U. Natarajan from AIMS, India presented on Cardiac Electro Physiology and RF Ablation Therapy and this session was chaired by Dr Mohamed Al Rawahi, Consultant Cardiac Electrophysiologist, SQUH and NHC, Royal Hospital.

Dr Benny Panakkal presented some of his complex and challenging coronary intervention cases, this session was chaired by Professor Dr Rajesh. He along with his team of Cardiologists, Dr Suman O S and Dr Nagaraju G B also conducted a hands-on workshop on Adult Echo. Another highlight of this conference WAS a presentation and workshop on Fetal Echocardiography by Professor Dr Balu Vaidyanathan from AIMS, India and it was chaired by Dr. Halima Adam Al Hashmi, Senior Consultant Paediatric Cardiology / Fetal Cardiology, NHC, Royal Hospital. He did a live fetal Echo workshop and demonstrated functions of fetal heart.

Every session turned out to be very interactive and witnessed active participation of delegates in discussing various queries with the speaker and chairperson.

Managing Directors of Badr Al Samaa Mr Abdul Latheef, and Dr P A Mohammed who were present on the occasion laid emphasis on the educational initiatives which Badr Al Samaa has taken since inception. They said more and more such world-class conferences will be held in future across varied specialities.

This initiative of Badr Al Samaa Group is to enlighten the medical fraternity with these advancements in various aspects of interventional cardiology, electrophysiology and cardiac surgeries including cardiac transplant which are aimed at better treatment options and outcomes in the interest of ailing heart patients was hailed by the healthcare community.
